Why did you choose a career in counseling?
Ever since I was 14, I’ve had a passion for mental health. One of the things that has always brought me the most joy is to have the gift of being a safe place for someone walking through their own valley of the shadow of death. To be able to be the hand that supports and in some way makes the hand of Jesus seem closer and more beautiful is one of the greatest gifts I feel like Jesus can give me. Every time I have the privilege of listening and seeing Jesus use that to bring courage to someone in their own battle, I know all over again that this is what Jesus created me to do. The pain in my own life is worth it a hundred times when it helps me understand and feel the pain of someone else.
What do you like best about counseling?
I think being able to walk alongside someone and reminding them that they are not alone in the darkness is one of the the things I love most about counseling. I feel like having an opportunity to be the hands and the encouragement of Jesus in a life has to be one of the highest callings.
How do you recharge on your day off?
I love taking quiet walks in nature, driving roads I’ve never driven before, and exploring lakes and valleys that are hidden spots of beauty. Whenever I have chance, you’ll find me in the kitchen baking for the people I love, journaling prayers and thoughts and listen to worship music, or writing the things Jesus is teaching me for my blog (hannahrayne.net)
What are your three favorite things?
1) Deep conversations with Jesus and the people I’m close to; 2) worship music on full volume as I drive a road I’ve never explored before; 3) being able to put a smile on someone’s face and make them feel loved.
