Why did you choose a career in counseling?
Actually, as a teen I spend many hours in volunteer work, from working with handicapped, answering a phone hotline, to working as a volunteer probation officer. I met a social worker in each of these places and I thought a career like this would meet the passions I had for helping people.
What do you like best about counseling?
I am a people person and would dislike being shut up in an office somewhere. I enjoy helping others and feel passionate about marriage, family and helping people improve their emotional health with God’s help and instruction. I love learning and will never give up learning skills that will help the clients I serve.
How do you recharge on your day off?
I do these things most every day. My devotional and prayer life keep me challenged, grounded and growing in my faith. Each day I help my 90 year old mother and that is quite a diversion. I go to a fitness center and this keeps me physically charged. On my day off, I usually cook, go to breakfast or lunch with friends or volunteer at my church. Recently on the last several Sundays, I coordinated two showers for my church (actually that is the church office I hold :-), worked at a health clinic, cooked for an evangelistic meeting get together (I love to bake and cook) and made wreaths for the holidays with my friend. All these things are great diversions from my work.
What are your three favorite things?
I love to read and write, as well as public speaking. I also love cooking and baking.
